Bacalaitos are a Popular Puerto Rican Street Food. They're thin, crispy and delicious.

Step 1

First, you need to remove the excess salt of the salted cod by rinsing in cold water.

Step 2

Boil the codfish (bacalao) for 15 minutes. This helps to further remove excess salt but still leaves a good amount needed for the recipe.

Step 3

Make your mix. In a large bowl add the flour, and seasonings and mix until there are no visible lumps.

Step 4

Add your codfish and mix it in. This is when you taste the batter to make sure is well seasoned.

Step 5

In a large pan add your oil to a medium heat. Once the oil is hot pour 1/2 cup of batter.

Step 6

Fry each bacalaito for 3 minutes on each side on medium heat. Then finish frying for 2 minutes on high heat.
