This homemade mint syrup is the BEST to use in any drink. Use it in your morning coffee, in a refreshing lemonade, dirty soda, or even in a cocktail. The best part is that it made with simple ingredients you might already have.
In a small saucepan over high heat, add sugar and water, and cook for 5 minutes. Stir constantly for the first 2 minutes to make sure the sugar dissolves, and bring it to a simmer. Remove from the heat.
Stir in the green food coloring and mint extract. Allow it to cool before storing. Use an airtight container like a glass bottle or jar to store it, and keep it in the fridge. ¡Enjoy and buen provecho!
Notes
Sugar-free version- Substitute white sugar for granulated Stevia or Splenda. Use only half of the sugar that the recipe calls for.
Fresh mint- If you want to use the fresh herb, you must leave out the extract. Then just add 2 cups of mint.
Food coloring- If you want, you can use way less food coloring. A few drops get the liquid green. Start with a few drops to see if you like it and go from there. You can also just leave it out if you prefer.
Yield- This recipe makes 2 ¼ cups of syrup.
Storing- Use any airtight bottle or jar. Store in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
