Hi, I’m Stephenie
I’m the face behind Food Metamorphosis. I create the recipes, test and taste them, and take photos of all the delicious recipes in this blog. I also make video tutorials of the recipes.
Thank you for being here!
How We Got Here
I grew up watching my grandmother cook in Puerto Rico. She prepared almost every meal at home from scratch. When I moved out on my own, my cooking journey began. I started cooking for myself, then my partner, and later on, for our kids.
I always cooked with the guidance of my grandma. Even from far away, she will guide me through the phone.
How Food Metamorphosis Was Born
I moved from Puerto Rico to the States in 2017. I was always home sick, and what I missed the most was my family and the food. Then, in late 2021, I decided I wanted to make the recipes I missed the most and share them online. I wanted to guide everyone to make simple & delicious food just like my grandma did. That’s when Food Metamorphosis was created.
At first, it was something created to help the Puerto Rican diaspora. I thought that a lot of people outside the island probably don’t know how to make certain things. But I realized that I didn’t know how to cook many of these recipes growing up in Puerto Rico. That’s when I realized that I was creating this for my people on the island and outside. Not only for Puerto Ricans, but anyone who wants to make a delicious meal!
What You’ll Find In Food Metamorphosis
- Authentic Puerto Rican Recipes that taste just like they’re made on the island.
- A lot of delicious Latin-American recipes that you can make at home.
- A complete guide on each recipe with step-by-step process images, expert tips, and FAQs so you can successfully make it.
- Every now and then, we’ll make recipes that aren’t Puerto Rican or Latin American but are tried and true.
Cooking Puerto Rican & Latin American Recipes
If you’re new to Puerto Rican and Latin American cuisine, the first thing to know is the basic staples. They’re rice, beans, root vegetables, corn, and spices that vary by country.
The basics for Puerto Rican recipes are traditional sofrito, sazon seasoning mix, adobo food seasoning, and annatto oil, which is also used in Latin American recipes.
More About Stephenie & the Blog
One day, my son and I were walking to the library and talking about the book we had recently read, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. My son was talking about how food goes through a metamorphosis while cooking. Then, He suggested that I name the blog Food Metamorphosis!
I don’t follow any specific diet or try hard to make my recipes healthy, but I have a few that are.
Yes, I am always looking for new recipes to make. While I don’t guarantee I can make them, I’ll sure try the recipes.
For true beginners, I always recommend starting with the basics. First, a basic white rice with some Puerto Rican stewed beans.
