This Piragua de menta is a super refreshing mint shaved ice that has a delicious cooling effect. A summer treat that you can make at home in only 10 minutes or less!
In a small saucepan, add sugar and water, over high heat, and cook for 5 minutes. Stir constantly for the first 2 minutes to make sure the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat.
Stir in the food coloring and extract. Allow it to cool before storing. Use an airtight container, a glass bottle, or a jar to store it, and keep it in the fridge.
Piragua
Add the ice to a blender and crush it. Add the crushed ice to a cup and put extra ice on top. Make a piramid/dome shape on top with a spoon, a funnel, or your clean hands. Add about half a cup of the syrup (the amount can change depending on your cup size). ¡Buen Provecho!
Notes
Sugar free version- You need to make the syrup sugar free by eliminating the white sugar. Instead use granulated stevia or splenda. You need to use half of what you would've needed of white sugar.
You have to elimanate the white sugar when making the syrup. Use granulated stevia or splenda. You only need half the sugar of what the recipe needs.
Ice- The amount of ice will vary depending on the cup you use. I use the same cup I'm using and fill it up twice with ice. This is enough to fill up the cup and make a little dome shape on top.
Food coloring- If you want, you can use way less food coloring. A few drops get the liquid green. Start with a few drops to see if you like it and go from there. You can also just leave it out if you prefer.
