This is the BEST homemade Strawberry simple syrup. It can be used to flavor any drinks, from cocktails, dirty sodas, coffee, or other drinks. It can also be used in desserts. A recipe made in 5 minutes!
In a small or medium pot over high heat, add sugar, water, and lemon juice. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir for the first 2 minutes to make sure the sugar dissolves, and bring it to a simmer. Remove from the heat.
Stir in the food coloring and the strawberry extract. Allow it to cool before storing. Use an airtight container or a glass bottle to store it, and keep it in the fridge. ¡Enjoy and buen provecho!
Notes
Fresh strawberries- The syrup can be made with fresh strawberries, but then you have to leave out the strawberry extract. For this exact recipe, you'll need 4 cups of the fresh fruit. * If you use fresh strawberries, don't add the extract.
Lemon juice- I used lemon juice, but you can also use lime juice. It will slightly change the flavor, but for the better. It makes it just a bit more sour, which we need in this recipe.
Sugar-free syrup- You can use granulated Stevia or Splenda. But we have to use less because these sugar substitutes are sweeter. If using Splenda or granulated stevia, use half of the sugar that the recipe calls for.
Food coloring- I used ¼ teaspoon, but you can use way less. A few drops get the liquid red. You just have to see how red you like the syrup to be. Start with a few drops to see if you like it and go from there.
Yield- This recipe makes 2 ¼ cups of syrup.
Storing- Use any airtight bottle or jar. Store in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
