All you need is 10 minutes to make this super easy Simple Strawberry Syrup. The best part is that it is made with ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.

The Strawberry Syrup is a recipe that can surprisingly be used in many foods. While you can make drinks like a Puerto Rican strawberry shaved ice or a strawberry limber, this is not only a drink addition!
You can make a Puerto Rican almond cake or any dessert, and brush the syrup on top to moisten the cake. You can do the same and brush the syrup over some hot coconut pancakes and infuse them with delicious strawberry flavor!
A surprisingly delicious way to use this strawberry simple syrup is to add it to your morning cup of coffee! Or just use it to make a dirty soda.

Recipe Ingredients

- Water- The water is the base for a fruity syrup. It is always 1 part water along with 1 part sugar.
- Sugar- I used white granulated sugar, and while you can also use brown sugar, I don’t recommend it. Just because it will change the flavor of the recipe.
- Lemon juice- I like to add some acidity to the recipe to balance the sweetness in the recipe. For this, lemon juice or even lime juice will do the trick.
- Strawberry extract- Here, the extract is the one responsible for the strawberry flavor.
- Red food coloring-The food coloring is more of a choice. I added just enough to make the syrup a light red color.
How to Make A Strawberry Syrup
- Step 1: In a small pot, add the sugar, water, and lemon juice. You need to cook this on high heat for 5 minutes. You just have to make sure to stir for at least the first 2 minutes so we can help the sugar dissolve faster.
- Step 2: Once cooked, turn off the heat. Then, you have to add the strawberry extract and the food coloring. Mix everything and let the syrup cool. Once it reaches room temperature, y transfer it to a jar or a bottle.
Using fresh strawberries to make a strawberry syrup
- Add the fresh strawberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice to a small pan over high heat. Cook for 5 minutes and stir while cooking. Let the mix completely cool down and strain the syrup. Save the strawberries to use as a topping and store the syrup in a jar.
How to make sugar-free strawberry syrup
- To make the strawberry syrup sugar-free, substitute the white granulated sugar for stevia or Splenda. But we have to use less because these sugar substitutes are sweeter. If using Splenda or granulated stevia, use half of the sugar that the recipe calls for.
Recipe Tips
- Milky syrup- This is a clear strawberry syrup, but the same recipe can be used to make a milk-based strawberry syrup. Instead of the water, use milk.
- Bottles- I like using any type of glass jar or bottle to store. You can use any type of container as long as it is an airtight container.
- Storing- This recipe has to be kept in the fridge so it can safely last 2 weeks.

Recipe Notes
- Fresh strawberries- The syrup can be made with fresh strawberries, but then you have to leave out the strawberry extract. For this exact recipe, you’ll need 4 cups of the fresh fruit. * If you use fresh strawberries, don’t add the extract.
- Lemon juice- I used lemon juice, but you can also use lime juice. It will slightly change the flavor, but for the better. It makes it just a bit more sour, which we need in this recipe.
- Sugar-free syrup- You can use granulated Stevia or Splenda. But we have to use less because these sugar substitutes are sweeter. If using Splenda or granulated stevia, use half of the sugar that the recipe calls for.
- Food coloring- I used ¼ teaspoon, but you can use way less. A few drops get the liquid red. You just have to see how red you like the syrup to be. Start with a few drops to see if you like it and go from there.
- Yield- This recipe makes 2 ¼ cups of syrup.
- Storing- Use any airtight bottle or jar. Store in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
