Have you ever had an Authentic Sangria Española? Now you can enjoy this anytime at home with this recipe. Trust me, this is good on a hot summer day and just as good on any random weeknight!

A wine glass of a Spanish Sangria with a piece of orange as decoration and a big jar on the back.

The Sangria Espanola is known as a Spanish drink, but is really made around the globe. In Latin America, there are many versions of this. But today we are making Spanish Sangria!

The basics of a good sangria are wine, fresh fruit, some brandy, and triple sec. From that, you can build your own if you like.

A very simple drink that doesn’t need any special ingredients, just like the limoncillo cocktail or passion fruit mojito flavor. Everything you need to make sangria, you’ll find at your local supermarket.

This is the perfect drink to go along with a Spanish paella or tapas. Even better to make during the holidays to share with family and friends.

    Why This Recipe Works

    • It only takes 10 minutes to prep the sangria and enjoy. But I always suggest letting it chill for hours before enjoying.
    • It is made with fresh fruits for a better flavor!
    • It will taste better than the ones you can buy at a restaurant!

    Recipe Ingredients

All the ingredients needed to make a Spanish sangria.
    • Apples & the orange- A good combination of 2 types of apples is best. I use a green Granny Smith apple and a red Fuji apple. You can use whatever apples you find, just try using different kinds. Some people skip the orange and just add the juice.
    • Peach- The peach is by far my favorite fruit that this recipe. But since the peaches are a seasonal fruit, you’ll have to resort to canned peaches when out of season. I used canned peaches.
    • Lemon- You just need 1 lemon. Just in case you ask, I have never used a lime because it tends to be more sour.
    • Sugar- Some people don’t like to add sugar, while others do. In this recipe will add sugar to balance everything out.
    • Cinnamon- I have seen people adding ground cinnamon, but I really prefer using a cinnamon stick. This is because the powder can overpower the drink.
    • Brandy- Your preferred Brandy brand will do, nothing specific.
    • Triple sec- There are many triple sec brands in the market. My preferred one is Cointreau. You don’t have to use this one, is just I really like the flavor.
    • Wine- Don’t worry about having to spend a big coin on wine because any cheap wine will do. The fruits and the liquor are what are going to make the drink special.
    • Club soda- This was my preferred choice, but there are many versions with different ingredients. Some people use an orange soda, ginger ale, and many other things.

    Sangria Substitutions

    • Fruits- You have the base fruits, but there are many others you can use and still make sangria taste good. You can use pears for apples. You can add berries.
    • Wine- You can use red or white wine. You can also use a cava.

    Sangria Variations

    • Vino blanco (white wine)- Sometimes called sangria blanca (white), it is made with white wine. You’ll use the same base ingredients. The only difference besides the wine is the amount of sugar you’ll put in. For some people, white wine tastes sweeter, so they’ll add less sugar.
    • Passion fruit sangria- You’ll use white wine instead of red. Add a lemon-flavored soda, lemons, and the passion fruit. It is absolutely delicious.

    How to Make Spanish Sangria

    • Step 1: Cut the apples and the peach into small cubes. The small cubes will pour better and will be easier to go down the glass and eat. Slice the lemons into circles and then cut the circles in half or into 4 pieces.
    • Step 2: Add all the fruit and sugar to a pitcher, and mix. Add the cinnamon, Cointreau, brandy, and mix. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Before serving, add the club soda. Garnish with a couple of fruit pieces.

    Recipe Tips

    • When you make the sangria ahead a time, it will taste better. This is because all the ingredients are going to “marinate” in the wine.
    • Try not to use frozen fruits because they tend to get mushy once they thaw. The texture won’t be very pleasing.

    Prep :10 minutes mins
Time :2 hours hrs 10 minutes mins
    servings :6

    Ingredients

    • 1 green apple
    • 1 red apple
    • 1 orange
    • 1 lemon
    • 1 peach
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 750 milliliters red wine (1 bottle)
    • 6 ounces club soda
    • 2 ounces brandy
    • 2 ounces triple sec
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Dice the apples and peach into small ½ inch cubes. Slice the lemon and orange into rounds, and then cut into 4 pieces.
    • Add the apples, peach, lemon, and orange to a large pitcher. Add the sugar and stir.
    • Add the cinnamon stick, brandy, triple sec, and wine. Stir until you see that all the sugar has dissolved.
    • Chill for at least 2 hours. Add soda water right before serving. Make sure to stir before serving just in case there's sugar in the bottom of the jar. Garnish with a piece of fruit, rosemary, or mint. Enjoy!

    Recipe Notes

    • Alcohol. In the recipe, I only added 2 ounces of brandy and 2 ounces of triple sec. But I usually add double the quantity. The amount is just a suggestion. So start by following the recipe and then adjust to taste.
    • Servings. The serving size is 6 ounces of liquid plus the fruits for each glass of sangria.
    • Refrigeration. You can serve the sangria right away over ice, but I strongly suggest you chill it for at least 2 hours. This is because all the fruits will infuse the wine with their sugar, and the wine will penetrate the fruit better. Best to refrigerate 12-24 hours.
    • Club soda. I add the soda water only if I’m serving right away. If you’re going to serve this later, wait to pour the soda water right before serving so it won’t go flat.
