If there’s one limber you try at least once, it is definitely this Puerto Rican Limber de Mantecado. The best part is that you don’t need to buy a syrup; I’ll show you how to make it!

Between the Puerto Rican Limber de Mantecado or the crema limber flavor, I can’t decide which is my favorite. I think it’s because they’re both super creamy. Is almost like frozen ice cream in a cup.
Now, usually this ice cream flavor limber is made with the mantecado syrup that is sold at supermarkets. Now, outside of Puerto Rico, this syrup can be super hard to find.
But no worries, here you’ll learn how to make the mantecado syrup recipe so you can make this limber. You’ll even be able to make ice cream flavor shaved ice with the syrup.

Recipe Ingredients

- Water & sugar- For this recipe, we have to use white granulated sugar so we can get the right taste.
- Vanilla extract- The extract adds flavor with only a little amount.
- Orange food coloring- The color is not a must but highly suggested for that nostalgic color the limber has.
How to Make Puerto Rican Limber de Mantecado

- Photo 1: In a big pitcher or jar, add all of the ingredients. Mix everything for at least 2 minutes or until you no longer feel the granulated sugar at the bottom of the pitcher.
- Photo 2: Pour the mixture equally into disposable cups and freeze for at least 12 hours
Recipe Tips
- Disposable cups with lids. I suggest you use disposable cups with lids. This is so you can prevent the limber from absorbing all the odors of your freezer. Or just cover the cups with foil.
- Ice cream flavor popsicles. You can get popsicle bags and make popsicles instead of limber. These will be as creamy as the limber.

Puerto Rican Limber de Mantecado (Ice Cream Flavor Frozen Cups)
Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- ¾ cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon orange food coloring
Instructions
- In a blender or big bowl, blend the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and the food coloring for about 1 minute. Or until all the sugar dissolves.
- Pour your limber mix equally into disposable cups with lids. Then freeze the limbers for at least 12 hours. ¡Buen provecho!
Recipe Notes
- Freezing- A Limber can take 8-12 hours to set. But a creamy limber, like this one that is made with milk, might take a little longer. I always leave them overnight to make sure they set.
