Have you ever tried a Champola De Guayaba? The champola is a guava drink that is sweet, creamy, and smooth. It tastes just like a guava smoothie!

a cup with the puerto rican guava drink called champola.

The Champola de Guayaba is a drink made in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, but it is not very well known. This is because the most popular kind is champola de guanabana(soursop).

My champola recipe is different than the traditional which uses guava pulp. The problem with the pulp is that it can be hard to get, depending on where you live.

I like to use guava paste. The guava paste is easier to find in supermarkets, and you can even get it online. Plus, I add a unique touch by adding cinnamon.

This guava drink is very creamy, just like a smoothie. It has the same texture as my passion fruit smoothie recipe or the coconut and berry smoothie recipe.

    Why This Recipe Works

    • This champola is made with different ingredients that make the recipe easier to make.
    • It is a drink that takes no more than 5 minutes to make!

    Recipe Ingredients

all the ingredients needed to make a puerto rican champola o guava drink.
    • Guava Paste- I make champola with guava paste because that’s all I had one day, and since then, that’s how I make it. The advantages of using the guava paste are that it is cheaper to buy than the pulp. Sometimes the pulp can also be easier to find.
    • Evaporated milk- The evaporated milk is what helps the drink have a very creamy texture. But if you don’t want to or don’t have any, you can use regular milk. Or even coconut milk, but the flavor will change a little bit.
    • Vanilla extract- You only need a touch of vanilla to aid in the sweetness. Not too much because you don’t want to mask the guava flavor.
    • Sugar- I like to add sugar because I like this drink to be sweet. But you can taste the recipe without it, and add the sugar to your taste. You can also use honey.
    • Cinnamon- This is my unique touch to the champola. The classic champola doesn’t have any cinnamon, but I really like the flavor it adds.

How to Make Champola De Guayaba

    • Step 1: You need a blender. Add all the ingredients to a blender. You need to blend this for 2 minutes. But depending on your blender, it can be faster or it can take more times. Blend until the drink is smooth. Then refrigerate. When ready to drink, serve over ice.

    Recipe Tips

    • If you want to serve the drink right away, I suggest refrigerating the evaporated milk before making.
    • If you freeze this, it will taste like a guava limber!

    Ingredients

    • 2.5 ounces guava paste
    • 12 ounces evaporated milk or 1 can
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Add all your ingredients into a blender and blend for at least 2 minutes or until the drink is smooth. Chill or serve over ice. Enjoy!

    Recipe Notes

    • There are many versions of the champola. Depending on the country, some even add a little bit of rum.
    • I make this recipe with guava paste but is usually made with guava pulp. The paste has less water and is a little sweeter. So if you want the same consistency of using the pulp, just add more water.
