One of the best recipes to learn how to make is the Pan Fried Chicken Breasts. It is a very versatile chicken recipe that can be served as a main meal or even as an appetizer.

4 pieces of pan fried chicken breast on a pan.

These Pan Fried Chicken Breasts are very easy to make. You just have to cut, season, and cook. The result is juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken.

This is the chicken breast recipe you want to have on repeat. It is an easy weeknight recipe that you can serve next to a quick side like fried yuca.

This is the chicken I use next to my potato buns to make the best chicken sandwiches. But this is a great protein to add to my tropical chicken salad.

    Why This Recipe Works

    • You can make 4 portions in only 20 minutes!
    • You don’t need special ingredients or equipment for this recipe.

    Recipe Ingredients

all the ingredients needed to make a puerto rican pechuga a la plancha or pan seared chicken breast.
    • Chicken breast- I used 2 large chicken breasts. How many will depend on how big or small you can find the breasts. Between both of the breasts, it was 1 ½ pounds. A good substitute is to use chicken tenderloins, and you can save yourself the cutting process.
    • Oil- The oil has 2 purposes. First, it helps us spread the seasoning better, and it helps to sear the chicken. You can use your preferred oil or melted butter.
    • Seasonings- With the seasonings here, I wanted to use ingredients that almost everyone may have in their pantry. I used salt, pepper, garlic powder, chicken bouillon, and paprika. Or you can use a simple burger seasoning.

How to Make Pan Fried Chicken Breasts

collage of the steps on how to make a pan fried chicken breast and on the left cutting the chicken and flattening on the right.
    • Photo 1: First, you want to remove any excess fat the chicken may have. Also, remove any tendons the chicken may have.
    • Photo 2: Now you need to flatten the chicken just until the pieces look even. You can do this with a meat mallet or any heavy kitchen tool. I usually just use the malet from my Puerto Rican pilon.

    • Photo 3: Season the chicken. You can just put the chicken in a big bowl, dump the oil and all the seasonings in, and mix. Or you can mix all the seasonings in the oil and make a paste, and then season everything.
    • Photo 4: You need a big pan to cook the chicken because you want to lay each piece of chicken flat. Set your heat to medium-high and cook for 10 minutes. Flip halfway through cooking.

    Recipe Tips

    • You can use any leftovers to make shredded chicken.
    • You can season the chicken however you want and just follow the cooking method.
