If you love chicken, you’ll love this Garlic Butter Chicken Wings recipe. This is the perfect recipe to make for a lazy weeknight dinner or even as an appetizer on your next football game night.
The wings are seasoned with salt, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika for color. Baked until golden brown and then tossed in a smooth garlic butter.
These wings are crispy even though they’re baked! But if you like the extra crunchy fried taste then try these crispy fried chicken wings or my Puerto Rican chicharron de pollo.
I like making these on the weekend and making creamy garlic and cilantro sauce to dip the wings in or a simple Puerto Rican fry sauce.

Why This Recipe Works
- This is a super easy recipe because is made with everyday ingredients. Plus is so easy to make your only season, bake, and toss in the delicious sauce.
- Is a good recipe to make if you want to avoid the breading or the calories in frying the chicken.
- Is the perfect finger food to make for any gathering or game night just like breaded fried meatballs!
Recipe Ingredients
- Chicken Wings– I used 1 ½ pounds of chicken wings. I got the wings pre-cut but you can use the whole wing.
- Seasonings– for the seasonings I used salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. If you would like to add some spice you can add some cayenne pepper or red chili flakes.
- Garlic– I took 2 cloves and grated them and used them to season the chicken. I minced and cooked the rest with butter. To make the garlic sauce I always like using fresh garlic because it tastes better but you can use pre-made garlic paste if that’s all that you have.
- Butter– I used salted butter for added flavor.
How to Make Garlic Butter Chicken Wings
- Photo 1: You need to remove the moisture from the chicken wings. This can be done in many ways. You can air-dry them in your fridge for a few hours and even overnight. What I did was simply dry each wing with a paper towel. Then add the wings to a big bowl and season.
- Photo 2: Place your wings in a tray with a rack. The purpose of the rack is to allow the air to circulate all over the chicken and prevent it from getting greasy with the drippings. Preheat the oven to 425°F and cook the chicken for 20 minutes.
- Photo 3: Flip the wings and cook for 20 more minutes. Flipping the wings helps the heat melt the fat of the meat. It also helps to get a nice golden even color on both sides of the chicken.
- Photo 4: Roughly mince the garlic. You can add much more if you are a garlic fan. It won’t affect the flavor much because when you cook the garlic, it will have a smooth taste.
- Photo 5: Cook your butter and garlic in a medium-sized pan over medium heat and constantly stir to prevent the butter or garlic from burning.
- Photo 6: Last, remove your chicken from the oven and pour the garlic butter over your wings. Give them a good toss and serve.
Recipe Tips
- To prevent your wings from getting soggy you need to keep them warm in the oven or microwave uncovered. Or to store make sure they cool off before.
- Double your sauce if you want to reheat your wings because sometimes the sauce can dry out while getting warmed up.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can use pre-made garlic paste to make garlic butter. It is really a matter of preference. Being that said, I believe that using fresh garlic will give you a better-tasting garlic butter.
To reheat the chicken wings you can either use the microwave or the oven. Before heating your chicken wings in the oven it is best to take them out of your fridge at least 30 minutes before so they can get to room temperature. This is because cold chicken is going to take longer to heat up. Long heating times can also cause the chicken to get very dry. To reheat in the oven, preheat it to 400°F and heat for 6 minutes.
